Delete blank icons from your iPhone screen [How to]

By

Every now and then, you may experience the problem of blank icons appearing on your iPhone screen, especially if you use a jailbroken iPhone as myself. If you remove these icons in the old fashion way from the screen, they will pop up when the home screen is re-spring or iPhone is synced.

Although there is no harm in keeping these blank icons, but they are more than annoying as they make the home screen appear all cluttered. If you’re experiencing the same issue like I did, here is a guide that will help you in deleting these icons permanently.

STEP-BY-STEP GUIDE:

  • Important: Please note that technoflames team will not be responsible for any damage caused during or after performing this procedure. Please ensure you follow the steps carefully and do not tamper with any software apart from the instructions laid to you unless you are an expert and know what you are doing.
  • For your knowledge, these icons are empty web clips and are useless.
  • Ensure that your iPhone is jailbroken before you proceed. (Check out our jailbreak guide section here)
  • Download the following free app: iExplorer. This app will allow access to iPhone’s system files from your PC.
  • Connect the iPhone via USB to the computer and launch iExplorer.
  • One the iPhone is connected, iExplorer will identify the iPhone and display system folders.
  • Head over to /private/var/mobile/Library/WebClips
  • In the WebClips folder, there will be plenty of folders you will see. Each sub folder represents a web clip which is present on your home screen.
  • The number of icons on your homescreen will be equal to the amount of subfolders you see as each icon on your homescreen is treated as a subfolder.
  • In order to determine which icon is blank, navigate to the icon.png present in each sub folder. iExplorer will give you a preview of the icon. If the icon is blank, you will see nothing in the preview just like the image below:
  • Delete the sub folder which carries an empty icon image. Repeatedly check the folders until you have safely deleted all the empty icons from the screen. To delete a folder, select it and right-click it and click on delete.
  • Reboot your iPhone and enjoy. Leave a comment below if you face any issue.
