Root Samsung Galaxy S GT-i9000 firmware XXJVU and install CWM (Clockworkmod) Recovery [How to]

Once you have updated to the leaked firmware XXJVU for Samsung Galaxy S (instructions here), the next big thing is to root and install Clockworkmod Recovery. Chainfire crew has introduced an app which allows users to root and install recovery mod at the same time only by flashing file using ODIN.

Before proceeding further, please be aware of the risk you are taking as our staff will not be responsible for any event which occurs after performing this procedure. It is a do at your own risk job.

INITIAL CONFIGURATION:

  1. Ensure that the battery is at least 60% charged (I would recommend a fully charged handset).
  2. Backup the smartphone data to your computer before proceeding.
  3. Enable USB Debugging by tapping Menu>Settings>Application>Development on home-screen. Ensure that the USB debugging mode is selected here.

GATHERING THE ESSENTIALS

  1. Gather the following stuff before proceeding further: Samsung Galacy S GT-i9000, USB Data cable and a computer.

STEPS TO SUCCESS (INSTALLATION START’S HERE) :

  1. Download CF-Root Kernel.
  2. Extract the content to a new folder you find zipped. You will see this file CF-Root-XX_OXA_JVU_2.3.6-v4.3-CWM3RFS.tar.
  3. Download and extract Odin3 v1.7.zip. You will see Odin3 v1.7.exe.
  4. Turn the smartphone off first.
  5. Now turn the phone on by pressing: Volume down + Home + Power until a screen pops up saying Download Mode
  6. Double click on Odin3 v1.7.exe and run it.
  7. Connect the smartphone to the computer with the USB cable. Odin program will automatically recognize the phone and you will see ID : COM section turning to yellow which will mean that all the drivers have been successfully installed.
  8. In Odin, click on PDA Tab and select: CF-Root-XX_OXA_JVU_2.3.6-v4.3-CWM3RFS.tar
  9. Select Re-Partition, Auto Reboot and F.Reset Time options in the check box.
  10. Click on Start button and rooting will start.
  11. Once finished, the device will restart itself. (Do it manually if it does not). Odin will appear as bellow once the process has been successfully completed.
  12. 2 new apps will appear in the end, the first one is superuser meaning your Galaxy S is rooted and the second one is CWM which means it carries CWM Recovery.
